The Immersive Open Pedagogies (IOP) made a strong impact at the Tri-Conference 2025, held from February 24-28, 2025, at UP Open University, Los Baños, Laguna. As part of their participation, they set up an interactive exhibit titled “OpenXR: Immersive Learning Without Borders”, showcasing how extended reality (XR) can revolutionize education by making learning more engaging, accessible, and immersive.
The exhibit attracted a diverse crowd, including conference participants, guests, students, faculty, and staff, all eager to explore the possibilities of XR in education. Many attendees took the opportunity to try on virtual reality (VR) headsets, immersing themselves in various applications designed to enhance learning experiences. Among these were some of the latest projects developed by the IOP team, which demonstrated how XR can be integrated into different academic disciplines, from science and engineering to the arts and humanities.
Participants were particularly fascinated by the way XR technology can break traditional learning barriers, allowing users to engage with content in ways that go beyond textbooks and screens. Some applications transported users to virtual environments where they could interact with digital objects, explore 3D models, and even simulate real-world scenarios. Faculty members and researchers saw firsthand how these tools could be used to enhance distance learning, making lessons more dynamic and interactive for students, regardless of their location.
Overall, the “OpenXR: Immersive Learning Without Borders” exhibit at Tri-Conference 2025 successfully demonstrated the transformative potential of XR in education. It sparked meaningful conversations among educators, students, and researchers about the future of immersive learning and how institutions can adopt these technologies to improve teaching and learning outcomes. The exhibit reinforced the idea that education should not be limited by physical or geographical constraints—with XR, learning truly knows no borders.
